Fibromyalgia is a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. It is called a syndrome rather than a disease because there is no specific diagnostic test that confirms its existence.
Fibromyalgia produces a confusing and frustrating collection of symptoms, which come and go and vary in intensity. It’s main symptom is widespread pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, stiffness, fatigue and poor non-restorative sleep. A high proportion of sufferers are highly driven people, and many have had a trauma or have been unwell before this condition comes on.
Although it is not a life-threatening condition, fibromyalgia is debilitating and sufferers will often have to change their lifestyle to be able to cope with day to day pain and tiredness.
Fibromyalgia can be effectively treated and managed. Treatments aim at improving the quality of sleep and reducing pain. Recent research confirms that a multidisciplinary approach to treating fibromyalgia provides most relief and the best prognosis. This approach includes improving the quality of sleep, physical conditioning, proper nutrition, deep relaxation and positive mental imagery. By combining therapies, the patient can often return to a much healthier state and a more active lifestyle.
Hypnotherapy, along with a good diet and gradual gentle exercise will take you a long way into recovery, and should enable you to start feeling like you are getting your life back.
As a sufferer of fibro I know how much hypnotherapy can help and recommend this to help your recovery.
Treatment for fibromyalgia usually takes 10 – 12 sessions. The first 3 sessions are weekly and then the sessions go fortnightly. This enables your body to make changes between appointments. I can also teach you strategies to help you deal with pain and will teach you some self-hypnosis. I will provide you with relaxation recordings for you to use in between your sessions, which can help you relax and reinforce the benefits of hypnotherapy.
